A Minstrel’s Song
“My armour is like tenfold shields, my teeth are swords, my claws spears, the shock of my tail a thunderbolt, my wings a hurricane, and my breath death!”
– Smaug, from J.R.R. Tolkien’s the Hobbit
Draco is our interpretation of the wonderful type XIV sword preserved in Deutsches Solingen Klingenmuseum. An accurate study was made for the 2015 exhibition “The Sword – Form and Thought” and in 2018 we had the chance to analyse the sword in person thanks to Dr. Sixt Wetzler and Dr. Isabel Immel. Because of its length and dynamics, it’s very functional both in cut and thrust. We tried to preserve the authentic forms and balancing, even if the pommel is copper-alloy, the blade is blunt as usual, and the customer asked for a shorter grip. Draco is naturally flexible and especially devised for I.33 sword & buckler practice.
* This sword is fully handmade without templates, so every Draco will be different from the previous one, as our craftsmanship and methods evolve and prevent machine-made effects. Tiny imperfections, differences and asymmetries give your sword a completely unique personality.
