The Black Fairy
“You poor, simple fools. Thinking you could defeat me. Me, the mistress of all evil!”
The Maleficent Rapier, with its swept-hilt, the fullered section and the blackened finish is a modern rendition of a Wallace Collection’s German rapier (INV. A634) dated to the beginning of the 17th century. Its catchy aesthetics, the wonderfully chiselled plates of the ports and the sinuous curves are a fine example of the ancient swordsmithing’s mastery, brought back and made alive to obtain a swept-hilt rapier suited for the HEMA practise. This is the right object for those who aim to study the rapier techniques of the M° Ridolfo Capoferro, whose treatise Gran Simulacro Dell’Arte e dell’Uso della Scherma was printed in 1610.
