The Fiery Hero
The Otello sidesword is named after Shakespeare’s character Othello from his famous self-titled tragedy, set in the city of Venice. In fact, Otello’s peculiar aesthetics is typically Venetian and was widely used by the end of the 15th century. Even if Shakespeare’s work is dated 1604 ca., the fierce Otello’s personality is reflected by the impetuous and martial lines of the crossguard design and the double sided u-shaped port, which offers faithful protection to the hand. More dynamically imposing than the Iago, the Otello is specifically designed for Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) and is an excellent pairing with our buckler, targa, parrying dagger or a cape.
